Brace Student Fellow Lillianna Villanueva ’25

In recent years, arrests of girls have increased significantly. News outlets, the public, and even the adults working in the justice system to support these girls often place the blame for this rise on a more violent, unruly generation. This increase in arrests and sentencing, however, can also be understood as an evolution of sexism. Sexism in the system is often evident in the reasons girls are incarcerated, the length of time they are incarcerated, and how they are treated during rehabilitation. The juvenile justice system was not created with girls in mind.

Brace Student Fellow Lillianna Villanueva ’25 aims to spread awareness of the girls that the feminist movement has left behind and change perspectives on justice involving girls. After this presentation, Andover community members will be able to see themselves as like these girls in everything but circumstance.

Open to the PA community; dinner will be served.
