Equity and Inclusion
A welcoming learning environment in which all students can discover their potential and gain the cultural competencies to lead in a global society. That’s Andover’s promise, powerfully upheld through campaign support.
- Donors fostered an intentionally diverse community with $6.2 million in funding, promoting 30-plus student clubs across cultural, religious, and other affinities; the goal of 100 percent faculty participation in equity and inclusion professional development; and more.
- Nearly $12 million was raised for Outreach programs: Andover Bread Loaf, the Institute for Recruitment of Teachers (IRT), (MS)2, and PALS.
- Leadership gifts from an anonymous donor enabled the school to name the Greener Quadrangle and the Chandler-Wormley Vista for trailblazing Black alumni of Andover and Abbot academies.
- The Office of Community and Multicultural Development expanded its reach with compelling student programming, including the CAMD Power Players, who work to build awareness of implicit bias on campus.
- The Brace Center for Gender Studies—the only one of its kind at the secondary-school level—remained a hub of inquiry and advocacy, supporting four student fellows annually and designing programs that inform and connect.
Perspectives from Linda Carter Griffith
Educating “youth from every quarter” means many things at a place as diverse as Andover. But two things stand out for me—shaping an environment in which every student feels affirmed and valued for who they are. And creating access and individual pathways to ensure that students can participate fully in the Andover experience.
It’s vital to empower students as they grow. It’s vital to give them the skills necessary to navigate a world that is radically different from previous generations—to forge a better world beyond PA. To that end, the campaign’s impact on diversity, equity, and inclusion has been truly profound.
I’m incredibly grateful to donors who championed this critical priority. Thanks to their generosity, Andover continues to be a pioneering institution that models egalitarian ideals, opens minds, and inspires thoughtful action.
