The Maya Cosmos
The Maya Cosmos Program will serve as an end-cap to History 566, an elective course entitled Shamans, Sacrifice, and Ceremony: The Maya Spirit World from Antiquity to the Present, which will run during the winter term. Building upon the content of the class, as well as the pedagogy and success of the BALAM and HUACA projects, this program will immerse students into the ancient modern Maya world of the Yucatan Peninsula. During this trip, students will put their newfound archaeological, historical, and visual literacy skills to the test as they explore and attempt to understand ancient ruins, ritual caves, Colonial sites, and indigenous villages, particularly within the context of Maya religion and cosmology.
