Andover kicks off year with Big Blue spirit
Students return to campus for the 2021-2022 academic yearPhillips Academy opened its 244th year with the first day of classes on Friday, September 10. The opening of fall term marks an optimistic and enthusiastic return to full in-person teaching.
New students arrived on campus on September 7 to raucous cheering and energy, courtesy of Andover's Blue Key heads. Following orientation and advisor meetings, the community participated in a schoolwide matriculation ceremony in Cochran Chapel. In his remarks, Head of School Raynard Kington MD, PhD, P’24, set the tone for the year:
“By choosing Andover, you have chosen to become a citizen of a community that leans heavily on its values—one that places the greater good ahead of self and looks out for the well-being of friends, classmates, and colleagues. A community that believes in the combination of knowledge and goodness as essential to a liberated mind.”
On Friday morning, as seniors eagerly anticipated their final first day of classes at Andover, Kington led the charge up the Vista with the Class of 2022. With chants of “22! 22!” echoing across the Greener Quad and the tolling of the Memorial Bell Tower in the distance, Andover embarked “to seize this moment in time with purpose, with Big Blue heart, and with great joy.”
