Board of Trustees welcomes Stacy Schiff and Sanjiv Desai
Schiff ’78 and Desai ’89, P’24 joined the Board on July 1Amy Falls ’82, P’19, ’21, president of the Phillips Academy Board of Trustees, announced that two new members have joined the board. Stacy Schiff ’78, of New York City, will serve a six-year term as charter trustee. Sanjiv Desai ’89, P’24, of Miami, Fla., will serve a two-year term as alumni trustee.
Stacy Schiff is a renowned author and essayist, with dozens of awards for her work including the Pulitzer Prize in 2000. Among other honors, she was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2019. Schiff’s most recent books include The Revolutionary: Samuel Adams (2022), The Witches: Salem, 1692 (2015), and Cleopatra: A Life (2010). Schiff’s 1999 biography of the wife of Vladimir Nabokov, Vera: (Mrs. Vladimir Nabokov) was awarded the Pulitzer Prize. In addition, she won the 2005 George Washington Book Prize for her biography of Benjamin Franklin, A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America, the basis for a 2024 Apple TV series.
A generous benefactor and volunteer, Schiff served on the Knowledge & Goodness campaign regional committee and continues to support initiatives including academic innovation, financial aid, and athletics. She is also a member of the Thomas Cochran Society and the Samuel Phillips & Sarah Abbot Society.
Schiff holds a BA and honorary doctorate from Williams College. She lives in New York with her husband Marc de La Bruyere, and they have three grown children.
Sanjiv Desai is CEO and president of Holonic Technologies, based in Atlanta. Prior to joining Holonic in 2018, he spent more than 15 years as an attorney in corporate and commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, and litigation.
A loyal Andover volunteer and donor, Desai serves as co-chair of the Annual Giving Board and sits on the Alumni Council Executive Committee. He is also a member of the Abbot Academy Fund Board, the Andover Development Board, and the Andover Bread Loaf Advisory Board.
Desai graduated from Columbia College in New York City. Then, after being in a Zen Buddhist monastery in Kyoto, Japan, went on to earn an MA from Yale University and JD from the University of Texas at Austin. He lives in Miami Beach with his wife, Wendy Levitz. They have two children, one of whom is in the Phillips Academy Class of 2024.
