Patrick Pothel

Instructor

Coach Pothel is a proud Caribbean American of Haitian descent. Born in NY City and partly raised in French-speaking Canada, he embraces all the cultures that have impacted his life. He was a two-sport athlete and earned two degrees at the University of Dayton and shortly after his playing career, he devoted his professional life to education.

Before arriving at Andover in 2021, Coach Pothel worked in various roles at other independent institutions like Middlesex School, The Taft School, Tabor Academy, and The Gilman School. In those schools, he taught French, History, and English while being a Varsity Head Coach in both baseball and hockey. He has recruited and coached a number of student-athletes who have matriculated through the collegiate and professional ranks. In addition, Coach Pothel has led several cultural excursions in Spain, France, Canada, and different domestic destinations to promote global awareness and learning in the world.

In the classroom, the locker room, and in the dorm, Coach Pothel always works to foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcomed and heard. It is his hope that students can learn from each other on a cognitive and cultural basis.

As a single parent, Coach Pothel’s proudest achievement is raising his two children, Jasmyn and Krystian. They motivate and inspire him as they forge their own life path to success.
