Ace Your Tests

Princeton Review courses prepare students for the verbal, quantitative, and reading comprehension sections of the SAT and SSAT standardized tests. The Princeton Review class will focus on vocabulary, verbal reasoning, and the ability to relate ideas logically, to solve problems involving arithmetic, elementary algebra and geometry and concepts as well the student’s ability to understand what he/she read.

Students will learn efficient test-taking strategies which, alongside the additional full-length practice test, will help relieve test taking anxiety and allow for students to maximize their score. Princeton Review courses take place 4x/week and meet for one hour throughout the duration of the program. For more information about Princeton Review Test Prep, please visit their website.

At the start of the program, each student will take a diagnostic full-length test for evaluation and placement purposes as well as a practice final full-length test to chart score improvements over the duration of the course. Detailed personalized score analyses are given to the student to evaluate their performance and pinpoint individual strengths and weaknesses.

  • Students enrolled in the SAT Prep Course will cover all sections of the exam. Students will take three full-length practice exams. They will have complete access to the Princeton Review Online Student Center at the conclusion of the course and can continue to improve their skills after Summer Session ends.

Cost: $975

SSAT Prep Course

Course similar to the SAT described above, but focused on SSAT Preparation; open to Lower School Institute students. $975

Building Best Study Practices

Open to Upper School students, Essential Study Skills is an optional course designed to teach students the skills to thrive, both academically and personally, in challenging school environments. Invited to nurture the broader dispositions that lead to academic success, students will emerge from the course with a toolkit of strategies they can use throughout their academic careers and beyond for:

  • Time Management: Learn how to effectively plan and prioritize your tasks and make the most of your study time
  • Note Taking Techniques: Discover various methods for taking clear and organized notes
  • Memory Techniques: Explore techniques to improve your memory and recall information during exams
  • Reading Strategies: Develop skills to read more efficiently and comprehend complex texts

Essential Study Skills meets four days a week for 60 minute course periods.

A friendly note: this course is especially recommended for students who believe they have room to improve academically or are anticipating an imminent transition to a markedly more rigorous academic experience than that to which they are accustomed. A student who is currently content with their approach to academic work and finds that their study strategies are successful, while welcome in this course, will likely not benefit to the same extent as a student who sees room for growth.

Get a jump on the college admissions process

Open to Upper School students, the College Counseling program provides students with an insider's look at the college admissions process. Registration for this program provides students with:

  • The opportunity to participate in information sessions held 4x/week on a variety of aspects of the college process, from selection and application to comparing financial aid packages and choosing a major. Each session includes a guest speaker from a college or university admissions office, with previous years' speakers hailing from institutions like Harvard, Amherst, Dartmouth, and Brown
  • 1:1 college counseling session, in which students work with a counselor to discuss college options, assist with resume writing, and feedback on college essays (fee-listed below).
  • Priority registration and pre-paid college visits to schools within the New England area

Cost: $300

Students have the opportunity to select optional music lessons to keep their practice going strong throughout the summer. With a wide range of music lessons available, students will take lessons and practice in Andover's state of the art Falls Music Center which opens this year. Students may enroll in four 45-minute lessons; practice rooms and instrument rentals are also available. Summer Session musicians are also invited to take part in an end-of-session music performance.

Financial Aid

We understand that the cost of on-campus programs may be prohibitive for some students and families, and as such, we directly allocate or partner with supporting organizations to provide nearly half a million dollars in financial aid each summer, ensuring broad access to the Andover Summer experience. Typically, only families working with Andover Summer Program Partners are eligible for Financial Aid. Program partners are local and nationally based community organizations with whom we have long-standing relationships. These organizations identify students from disadvantaged, low-income areas who would be a good academic fit for our summer program. Unfortunately, we do not have the ability to pair students with our program partner organizations.

On occasion, a very limited amount of funding is available after our allocation to program partners. Please note that international students, students who attend an independent school during the regular academic year and returning Summer Session students are not eligible for financial aid awards. If you wish to be considered for any remaining aid, both your Andover Summer and financial aid application must be completed no later than February 15, 2025. Andover Summer uses Clarity Financial Aid Services to provide an estimated family contribution available for educational purposes. Upon electronic receipt of your information from Clarity, Andover Summer recalculates all information using our own standards and policies to make fair and objective financial aid decisions.
